On the one hand, installed programs are listed in the Start menu, while the taskbar search window shows the apps you use most frequently at the top, with the most recent searches below on the left and a quick access menu to weather or important information on the right.
While some users may find the recent searches displayed by the search bar useful, since it allows them to return to these topics quickly and conveniently, this is not necessarily the case for everyone. Others may find it intrusive, in case sensitive information has been searched and someone else has been able to view it from the search history section.

Disable search history of taskbar search box in Windows 10
Users should note that here we are going to see how the search history setting displayed in the taskbar search box can be permanently disabled. There is also an option for you to delete individual searches without getting rid of the functionality completely.
To do this, users simply need to drag their cursor over the search entry they want to remove and click on the ” X »To the right of the entrance. As you will notice, deleting a search entry will add a previous entry to the list of recent searches. For example, if you delete the first entry, the other entries will move up a notch and a new previously searched entry will be at the bottom of the list.
In order to turn off the search history setting of the search box, you need to follow the steps below:
- Access to Windows 10 settings from the search box on the taskbar or open them directly using the hotkey Windows + I.
- In the search bar at the top of the settings window, find Permissions and History.
- Scroll down to the title Historical.
- Disable the option Search history on this device.
- If you want to delete the search history that has been stored by your computer to date, you can click on the button Clear device search history.
If you decide to re-enable this feature later without clearing the existing history, you will see the search history again.
You can now close the settings page and open the search box to find that the section where the search history appeared before is now gone and below the section Top applications there are quick searches.
