Most of the photos taken today have been taken on smartphones. The smartphone camera takes more than a picture when taking a photo. The camera has access to many of the phone’s sensors, data, and device configuration, and most of this information is included when the photo is taken. For example, if you want to check if a photo was taken on iPhone, you can usually check it by looking at the EXIF information in the photo.
Figure EXIF information
EXIF data is stored on all cameras, not just phones. Professional cameras store information about the camera settings that were used to take the photo, but telephones have more information at their disposal and therefore store more EXIF information. For example, a photo taken with a phone probably includes longitude and latitude coordinates where the photo was taken accurately.
EXIF data is fairly easy to visualize if you know how to visualize it. With professional photo management tools, you can view everything saved, while basic photo viewers can show only a small portion of the data instead of all.
